Iris Rezende

Iris Rezende Machado (22 December 1933 – 9 November 2021) was a Brazilian politician. He was a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB). He was born in Cristianópolis, Goiás, Brazil. He was the Mayor of Goiânia three times (1966–1969, 2005–2010, 2017–2021). He was also Governor of Goiás twice (1983–1986, 1991–1994). From 1995 until 2003, he represented the state in the Brazilian Senate.

He was the Minister of Agriculture during the José Sarney presidency between 1986 until 1990. He later was the Minister of Justice and Public Security during the Fernando Henrique Cardoso presidency between 1997 until 1998.

Rezende died on 9 November 2021 at a hospital in São Paulo from problems caused by a stroke, aged 87.[1]
