Issaka Assane Karanta

Issaka Assane Karanta (January 1, 1945 – December 23, 2020) was a Nigerien academic and politician. He was the Mayor of Niamey from 1996 to 1999 and from 2010 to 2011. Karanta also was the Governor of Niamey Capital District from 2018 until his death.

Karanta died of COVID-19 on December 23, 2020, during the pandemic in Niger at the age of 75.[1]
