Jan Theelen (29 August 1939 – 15 January 2022) was a Dutch musician, arranger and producer.[1]

Biography[change | change source]

Theelen played accordion when he was six years old. He started his professional music career as a pianist. He worked for a long time with Tom Manders, better known as Dorus. In the seventies he worked with the American Dutch singer Lori Spee [nl], and also with Jan Boezeroen [nl] making the single De dronkaard [nl].

Theelen had had its own music studio since the 1960s, first in Venray and later in Munstergeleen. Later he had this studio named "Onger Os" together with his son. In Limburg he was particularly known as an arranger of carnival music. Much of this music was recorded in his studio, that closed in 2020.[2][3]

In 2007, Theelen was the winner of the Oeuvre-Priès van 't Limburgs Leed (translated: Oeuvre Prize of the Limburg Song).

Theelen died in Sittard on 15 January 2022, at the age of 82.[2][1]
