Jetty
Appearance

A jetty is a structure that extends from the shore into the water.[1] They are often built to protect a coastline or harbor from currents and tides, or to control the flow of water and prevent sediment buildup. Jetties are usually solid and can be made of rocks, concrete, or wood. They often serve as barriers or breakwaters and may also be used for docking boats.
They are like a pier, but piers are raised structures over the water, where a jetty is usually solid and water cannot flow under it. However sometimes the two words are used for either structure.
