Jim Ratcliffe (James Arthur Ratcliffe, born 18 October 1952) was the richest man in the UK in 2010.[1] He is the son of a joiner (a type of carpenter).
The British billionaire is a chemical engineer who became a financier and industrialist.[2] Ratcliffe founded the Ineos chemicals group in 1998, which now has an annual turnover of $44 billion. He is its chairman and chief executive officer. Ratcliffe still owns two-thirds of the company.
This is the first time since 2003 that a British-born person has topped the Sunday Times Rich List. In 2003 the former Duke of Westminster had topped the list.[1]
