João Canijo (10 December 1957 – 29 January 2026) was a Portuguese movie director. He was known for his movie Get a Life, which premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.[1] His 2011 movie Blood of My Blood was selected as the Portuguese candidate for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards.[2]
His 2023 movie Bad Living won the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival.[3]
Canijo died on 29 January 2026 in Vila Viçosa, Portugal from a heart attack at the age of 68.[4]
