Johan Christian Dahl (24 February 1788 – 14 October 1857) was a Norwegian painter.

He was the first great romantic painter in Norway, and he started a "golden age" of Norwegian painting. He was mostly a landscape artist in Scandinavia and Germany, influenced by his friend Caspar David Friedrich. Dahl was the first Norwegian painter to reach an international status.

He also had a leading role in the creation of the National Gallery of Norway, and dedicated himself to the preservation of historical churches and monuments in his country.[1]
