Komlóska

Komlóska (Rusyn: Комловшка) is a village in Sárospatak District of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its population is less than 300 people, yet it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County.[1]

It lies in a valley of the Zemplén Mountains, about 70 kilometers northeast of Miskolc by road.

The village was already inhabited in the 1200s, and its name appears in the late 14th century. A document from 1396 mentions it as Komlós or Komlóstelek. The village’s Rusyn population moved there from Zakarpattia in the 1720s.

The settlement preserves the language and minority culture of its 18th century Rusyns settlers to this day. The village is one of the centers of the Rusyns in Hungary.

In 2022, 87.2% of the population identified as Hungarian, 26.9% as Rusyn (due to dual identities, the total can exceed 100%). By religion, 59.8% Greek Catholic, 6.4% were Roman Catholic, 2.6% Reformed, 1.3% other Christian, and 1.7% non-religious (28.2% did not answer).[3]
