Ladik Lake

Ladik Lake (Turkish: Ladik Gölü; Ancient Greek: Στιφάνη Λίμνη, romanized: Stiphane Limne) is a lake in Samsun Province, Asiatic Turkey. In Classical antiquity, it was called Stiphane, and was located in the northwestern part of Pontus, in the area called Phazemonitis. According to Strabo, the lake is rich in fish, and its shores have excellent pastures. The southern shore of Ladik Lake was the epicenter of the 7.8–8.0 Ms 1668 North Anatolia earthquake, which is the most powerful earthquake recorded in Turkey.[1]
