Lorraine (in German Lothringen) is one of the regions of France. About 2.3 million people live there.[when?] Its capital is Metz. It is in the north-east of France. The most important population centres are Nancy and Metz, with about 300,000 people each, followed by Thionville, with about 130,000. Other important cities are Epinal and Bar-le-Duc.

The departments in the region are Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, and Vosges.
