Malcolm II (Gaelic: Maol Chaluim mac Choinnich) c. 954-25th November 1034 was King of Scotland from 1005 until his death, he was one of the longest-reigning Scottish Kings of that period, he was a son of King Kenneth II and The Prophecy of Berchán says his mother may have been a daughter of Uí Dúnlainge King of Leinster. The first raid into Northumberland was the siege of Durham, the battle resulted in defeat for the Scottish after Uhtred of Bamburgh raised an army from Bernicia and York to repel the attackers, this victory granted Uhtred the Ealdorman of Northumbria, which is reported by the Annals of Ulster, the second war against the English was at the Battle of Carham, by the River Tweed, it was more successful for the Scots, the army led by Malcolm himself with Owen the Bald king of Strathclyde, by this time Eiríkr Hákonarson had been appointed ealdorman in Northumbria by his brother-in-law Canute the Great.
Malcolm arranged his eldest daughter Bethóc to marry Crínán, Earl of Atholl and later Abbot of Dunkeld father of Duncan I. Malcolm also arranged his youngest daughter Donada to marry Finlay, ruler of Moray, father of Macbeth.
