Mandan is a city on the eastern border of Morton County. It is the eighth-largest city in North Dakota. It was founded in 1879. In 1881, it was made the county seat of Morton County.[5] In the 2020 census, the population was 24,206.[3] Across the Missouri River from Bismarck,[6] Mandan is a core city of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Mandan's climate has large seasonal temperature differences. It has warm, hot and humid summers. In the winter, it becomes very cold.[7]
