Marion is a city in Iowa in the United States.Marion is a city in Linn County, Iowa, United States. The population was 26,294 at the 2000 census and was 41,535 in 2020, an increase of 58%. The city is located next to Cedar Rapids and part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area.Founded in 1839 and named after Revolutionary War General Francis Marion, Marion, Iowa, served as the original Linn County seat. It grew rapidly in the late 19th century as a railroad division point. Though Cedar Rapids overtook it as county seat in 1919, Marion evolved into a thriving residential and historic community.
