Mauricio Simon Umansky (born June 25, 1970)[1] is a real estate broker and television personality. He is best known as a co-founder and CEO of The Agency RE, a global boutique real estate brokerage based in Beverly Hills, California,[2] and for appearing as a main cast member on the Netflix reality television series Buying Beverly Hills since 2022.[3]

Early life[change | change source]

Mauricio Simon Umansky was born in Mexico City, Mexico[4] on June 25, 1970,[1][5] as the elder of two children to Eduardo Umansky, a clothing manufacturer, and Estella Sneider, a psychologist.[6] He has a younger sister.[7] He is Jewish.[8] Umansky was raised in Mexico and moved to the United States with his family at the age of six. He is of Russian, Greek and Turkish decent.[9][8]

Umansky suffered from neutropenia as a young child, spending a considerable amount of time in hospital. He has been diagnosed legally blind in one eye as a result of the condition.[4]

Umansky attended the University of Southern California, but dropped out to pursue a business venture.[10]

Career[change | change source]

Umansky founded 90265, a clothing company, in 1989. He claims to have started the trend where women wear oversized t-shirts with leggings. He sold the company in 1996.[11]

Real estate[change | change source]

Umansky made his debut as a real estate agent working at Hilton & Hyland, a boutique firm in Beverly Hills, California, which is co-owned by his brother-in-law, Rick Hilton. His first sale at the firm was a property in Brentwood, California, belonging to his wife's ex-husband, which he sold for US$7.5 million.[11]

Umansky,[12] Billy Rose and Blair Chang co-founded The Agency RE, a global boutique real estate brokerage, based in Beverly Hills, in July 2011.[13]

Umansky was ranked as the third individual U.S. real estate agent for total number of real estate sales transactions in 2018 by RealTrends as published in The Wall Street Journal.[14]

Television[change | change source]

Umansky made his television debut in March 2005, during an episode of the MTV reality television series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

Umansky has appeared as a guest on the Bravo reality television series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills since October 2010.[15][16][17][18]

Umansky has appeared as a main cast member on the Netflix reality television series Buying Beverly Hills[19] since November 4, 2022. The series focuses on Umansky and his team, along with the clients at The Agency RE.[3]

Umansky competed in the 32nd season of Dancing with the Stars, partnered with professional dancer Emma Slater, debuting on September 26, 2023. They were the sixth couple eliminated, leaving on October 31.[20]

Published work[change | change source]

Umansky authored The Dealmaker: How to Succeed in Business & Life Through Dedication, Determination & Disruption (ISBN 9781668010648), which was published by Gallery Books on April 11, 2023.[12]

Personal life[change | change source]

Umansky resides in Encino, Los Angeles with Richards, their three daughters and their dogs.[21]

Marriage, children and family[change | change source]

Umansky met his wife, Kyle Richards, an actress, in 1994. The couple wed on January 20, 1996, when Richards was 4 months pregnant with their daughter Alexia Umansky. They have two more daughters together; Sophia Umansky and Portia Umansky.[22] Farrah Brittany, Richards' daughter from her first marriage, has been his stepdaughter since she was five years old.[23] His in-law's were business consultant Ken Richards and casting director Kathleen Richards.

On July 3, 2023, it was reported by People magazine that Umansky and Richards had separated after 27 years of marriage.[24] The couple later released a joint statement which denied they were divorcing, but admitted that they were going through a difficult period in their marriage.[25] Umansky and Richards have both since confirmed their separation.[26]

Umansky is a cousin of Doris Bessudo, from Bravo's reality television series Mexican Dynasties.[27]

Charity work[change | change source]

Umansky, with his wife, is listed on the "First Families" of the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which means they have donated US$100,000 or more to the hospital.[28] The couple also held fundraisers for the CHLA in 2013 and 2019, which were featured on The Real Housewives.[29]

Umansky serves as a board member for Giveback Homes, an organization dedicated to building homes for families in need.[30]
