Isn't the large red background a little too threatening? How about a yellow warning background? --LBMixPro<talk|to|me> 08:49, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the red background makes people read it and quickly get off the page. Billz (Talk) 10:08, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed for some reason that the message doesn't display very well in Internet Explorer. In Firefox, the message looks good. Billz (Talk) 21:10, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, mistaken uploads are easily fixed and not a big deal. Do not bite the newcomers by shouting with colors. Also, white text on a colored background is BAD for accessibility. -- Netoholic @ 21:19, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point of view, but this afternoon, a new user has uploaded an image because they must have thought they they were allowed to and didn't stop to read the message. As the old proverb goes, prevention is better than cure. I believe that it is much better to prevent people uploading images by having an eye-catching message which people will read rather than just deleting images after they have uploaded them, because this will mean that we have to remove the missing image tags from the articles which they used the images on, thus creating more work. Do you agree? Billz (Talk) 16:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I really do think that the current message is totally insufficient. Since 20th September 2006, we have had six image uploads, which is more than ever. Please can we have a much stronger and eye-catching message, such as mine, to make people not upload images? Billz (Talk) 17:17, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We were also featured on the Signpost, which is bringing more people here. It may also be bringing people here to "test" our upload policy. There is no long-term harm in the occasional upload, as they are easily deleted. -- Netoholic @ 18:11, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
People uploading files and adding links to them on articles means that the image has to be deleted, the article has to be reverted and the user warned. If we had a very eye-catching message, it would hopefully prevent people uploading any files in the first place. Billz (Talk) 19:05, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think perhaps Neto is right on the accessibility point, and maybe it's a bit threatening to new people. What I tried to do at one point was have that message on one page and have a 'continue' link at the bottom so people can't just scroll down and ignore it. That would need developer help though, and I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. Archer7 - talk 19:20, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What about if I toned it down to my box, but with a light yellow background and black text? That should be as easy to read as most of the userboxes, etc. To show the message, I have put it in the sandbox (here). Billz (Talk) 19:51, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We have had another image upload today. I think we really do need to change the message to a strong version. Billz (Talk) 10:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the last several uploads of the past few days have all been from one User:Smartyteen, who has been warned repeatedly. It looks like this user is testing his or her limits by flouting the warnings and should be given a sterner warning, or else disciplined if he or she will not listen to the warnings. As far as the page goes, I like the two stop hands at both ends of Netoholic's version, but I also like the flashing words of Bill'z version. The color scheme does not have to kill your eyes though, it should be as easy to read as possible.! Thanks, Blockinblox 11:43, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the colour scheme on mine so that it is easier to read. It can be found here. Billz (Talk) 12:22, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
