Melanie Wade Goodwin

Melanie Wade Goodwin (July 22, 1970 – September 1, 2020) was an American politician. Goodwin was in the North Carolina House of Representatives from the 66th district as a member of the Democratic Party. She was in office between 2005 and 2011.

She was the first member of the North Carolina General Assembly to give birth while in office.[1]

Goodwin was born in Richmond, Virginia. She studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at Campbell University.

In 2009, Goodwin was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died on September 1, 2020 from the disease, aged 50.[1]
