Missing is a 1982 American Mexican biographical drama movie directed by Costa-Gavras and based on the 1978 novel by Thomas Hauser. It stars Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Mayron, John Shea, David Clennon, Jerry Hardin, Richard Venture and was distributed by Universal Pictures. It was nominated for 4 Oscars and won an Academy Award in 1983. It is based on the disappearance of American journalist Charles Horman, in the aftermath of the United States-backed Chilean coup of 1973, which deposed the democratically elected socialist President Salvador Allende and replaced it by the military junta of General Augusto Pinochet.
