Montfort is a city in the Dutch province of Limburg. About 3,000 people live there. It is about 8 km south of Roermond. Montfort got city rights in 1271. It is known for the ruins of Castle Montfort, built in the 13th century.
Until 1991, Montfort was an independent municipality. It became part of Posterholt and was later renamed Ambt Montfort. Since 2007, it became a part of the new municipality of Roerdalen.
