Ikhtiyar al-Din Muhammad Bakhtiyar Khalji, also popularly referred to as Bakhtiyar Khalji, was a Ghurid Empire military general. He was of Turko-Afghan descent and worked under the Ghurid leader Muhammad of Ghor. In the early 1200s, he took Muslim armies to conquer some of eastern India, such as Bengal and Bihar. Following his conquests, he became the ruler of Bengal and founded the Khalji dynasty there. He ruled briefly, from 1203 to 1227 CE.[1][2][3]
