The New York Liberty are an American professional basketball team. The team is based in Brooklyn, a place in New York City. The Liberty play basketball in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). They are in the WNBA's Eastern Conference. The team was made in 1997. It is one of the eight original WNBA teams. When they play basketball in Brooklyn, the Liberty play at Barclays Center.

As of 2023, the Liberty have been to the WNBA Playoffs seventeen times. They have been to the WNBA Finals four times. In 1997, 1999, and 2000, they lost the Finals to the Houston Comets. In 2002, they lost to the Los Angeles Sparks. The team has never won a WNBA Final.
