Nick Rocks: Video to Go, usually called Nick Rocks, is a music video television program that ran from 1984 to 1989 on the American channel Nickelodeon.[1] The show played pop and rock music videos for about 30 minutes in a countdown style.[2][3] The show was usually hosted by a man called "Joe from Chicago". Most episodes showed Joe traveling to different places to meet viewers who asked to see their favorite music videos. During the show's run, there were also guest hosts, like The Monkees and They Might Be Giants.
The music videos shown on the program were chosen based on letters sent in by viewers. In 1987, the show received about 5,000 to 6,000 letters each week.[4] Many of the music artists who appeared on Nick Rocks were also shown on Nickelodeon’s sister channel, MTV. According to Nickelodeon president Geraldine Laybourne, people from MTV helped find artists for the show.[5]
