Odd Aalen

Odd Olai Aalen (born 6 May 1947 in Oslo) is a Norwegian statistician. He is internationally known for his research on progression and survival analysis.

Aalen grew up in Oslo and graduated from Oslo Cathedral School in 1966. He studied physics and mathematics at the University of Oslo until 1972. He then began graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley, USA.

Works[change | change source]

After his doctorate, he worked as a researcher at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Tromsø, before becoming a medical statistician at the University of Oslo in 1982. He became a professor from 1985 and now has a position at the Department of Biostatistics.
