Oleg (Old East Slavic: Ѡлегъ, Ольгъ), known as Oleg the Wise, Oleg of Novgorod or Oleg of Kiev, was a Varangian prince of the Rus' who became the first prince of Kiev, thereby laying the foundations of the Kievan Rus' state.
