Ozone is a six-member boy band under Sony Music Taiwan. It was formed via fan-voting, and is a group of the popular members from the idol survival show talent show Atom Boyz.[1]

The members include Chou Zu An, Chou Zi Xiang, Huang Wen Tin, Lin Jia Chen, Lin Huan Jun and Lee Zhe Yan. Ozone announced its official debut with at the Sony Music 2022 New Boy Group Press Conference on September 13, 2022, releasing their first single “O.A.O.” November 1st of the same year and their first EP Unicorn shortly after that on December 23.[2][3][4] In June 2023, they won their first award with their EP Unicorn at the Hito Pop Music Awards. In October of the same year, they released their first group variety show Ozone Summer Go! Youth Adventure to celebrate the first anniversary of their debut.

Before Atom Boyz

Chou Zi Xiang trained as a trainee in South Korea for half a month before participating in the 2016 Taiwanese idol show Show Star 2, but was eliminated in the 100-person audition round.

From 2016 to 2017, Lin Huan Jun went to South Korea to be a trainee under SM Entertainment.[5] In 2019, he participated in Produce Camp 2019, also known as CHUANG 2019, produced by Tencent Video in mainland China, before withdrawing due to accusations of supporting Taiwanese independence.[6]

Huang Wen Tin and Lin Jia Chen participated in the "Youthful Boys" category of the 7th Eelin Brilliant Star competition in 2018, with Huang Wen Tin winning the championship and Lin Jia Chen winning runner-up.[7] They subsequently, with Chou Zu An, participated in the "Star Hunting Plan" held by Like Music Company in the same year and were spotted by Chen Zi Hong, forming the trainee boy group E.M.B. (Enjoy Music Boys) with 3 other trainees under the same company, Lu Chi Yu (LCY 呂植宇), Tsao Jia Chi (曹家齊), and Chen Shui Feng (陳水豐).[8][9][10] Chou Zi Xiang also participated in the "Star Hunting Plan" but was not chosen. In 2019, E.M.B. won the championship of the 16th Shin Kong Cup Street Dance Competition with the team "Super Daddy," but lost the chance to debut the following year when Like Music announced it would debut girl group PER6IX first.[9][10][11][12]

In 2020, Lee Zhe Yan participated in the "Performing Arts" group of the 9th Eelin Brilliant Star competition and won third place.[7]

Atom Boyz

In 2021, Wildfire Entertainment started preparing for the boy band talent show Atom Boyz, with contestants grouped into planet teams with different concepts based on characteristic and style. Huang Wen Tin, Lin Jia Chen, and Chou Zu An were selected to be contestants in the "Earth" group, with a fresh and youthful "boy next door" concept.[1][13][14] Chou Zi Xiang, Lin Huan Jun, and Lee Zhe Yan were selected to be in "Neptune," "Saturn," and "Mars" respectively.[15][5][16]

The show was set to film in the latter half of 2021, but was postponed twice, due to the initial COVID-19 pandemic and the later spread of the Omicron variant in Taiwan.[1][17] During the second delay, in 2022, Lin Jia Chen and Lee Zhe Yan formed the songwriting and producing group ΛTLΛNTIX (亞特蘭提斯) with four other Atom Boyz contestants, Wu Yu Ting (吳昱廷), Kao You Xiang (高有翔), MAX (徐彭臒), and LCY (呂植宇).[18][19]

Following the restart of the show later that year, the "Neptune" and "Saturn" teams were eliminated, but members Chou Zi Xiang and Lin Huan Jun were saved by the judges and moved to the "Earth" team, joining Chou Zu An, Huang Wen Tin, and Lin Jia Chen.[20][21][22]

Debut

The official six-member list was announced at their debut press conference held by Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan on September 13, 2022, along with individual member introductions and announcement of the new group name Ozone.[23] Sony Music Taiwan also announced future plans of the group, including release of a new single, a drama OST, overseas training (in Korea), and the release of an EP in December.[24]

Year 1 and Ozone Summer Go

For their 1 year anniversary, Ozone announced the launch of a group variety show, Ozone Summer Go, wherein members would participate in different games and activities and explore different areas of Taiwan. A theme song for the show, "Sha La La With You," sung by Ozone and written in part by member Lee Zhe Yan, was released in October.

In 2023, Ozone had performed at over 80 events,[25] and was the most active Taiwanese artist on TikTok.[25] Their song "Purple Days" was also the most used sound by a Taiwanese artist in Taiwan on TikTok.[25]

On July 20, 2025, the official Instagram and YouTube released a teaser for Ozone Chapter 5: FREE, and on July 23, the group announced the 2025 Summer PHOTO BOOK: Never Been, with pre-orders beginning noon on that day.

The band's name Ozone is derived from the three oxygen atoms (O) that make up Ozone (O3), which symbolize origin, optimism, and originality.[26]

Fans

Ozone announced their official fan name "O.A.O." on November 1, 2022. It is an abbreviation of "One and Only," and it expresses the meaning that "fans are the one and only thing in the group Ozone and the driving force behind Ozone's progress," and the hope that "Ozone can also become fans' one and only."[26]
