Patricia M. Derian
Patricia Murphy "Patt" Derian (August 12, 1929 – May 20 2016) was an American civil rights and human rights activist. She was born in New York City, but was raised in Danville, Virginia. During the 1976 U.S. presidential election, Derian was deputy director of the Carter-Mondale campaign. Derian served as Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs from 1977 to 1981.[1] She was known for being a critic of the Ronald Reagan presidency and his administration.
Derian died at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina from Alzheimer's disease on May 20, 2016, aged 86.[2]
