Paul S. Atkins is a lobbyist, businessperson and politician who has been the 34th Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission since 2025. He was the CEO of Patomak Global Partners LLC.[1]
Atkins was a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2002 to 2008 during the George W. Bush administration.[1] In December 2024, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Atkins to serve as Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission under his second administration.
Early life
[change | change source]Atkins was born in Lillington, North Carolina. He grew up in Tampa, Florida.[2] He received his A.B. from Wofford College in 1980.[3] He received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1983.[2]
Career
[change | change source]Atkins was a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from July 9, 2002 until his term's completion in August 2008.[2] He served with chairmen Harvey Pitt, William H. Donaldson, and Christopher Cox.
He was co-chair of the Token Alliance, an advocacy group for the crypto business.[1]
On December 4, 2024, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Atkins to serve as Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission under his second administration.[1]
