The Peterhof Palace is a series of palaces and gardens in Petergof, Saint Petersburg, Russia. They were built by Peter the Great to compete against the Palace of Versailles that were built by Louis XIV of France.[1] Peter the Great wanted to expand the property as a result of his visit to the French royal court in 1717.[2] The architect between 1714 and 1728 was Domenico Trezzini.[3]
