Pirates of the Caribbean is a series of fantasy pirate movies produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and based on Walt Disney's theme park attraction of the same name.

Directors of the series include Gore Verbinski (movies 1–3), Rob Marshall (4), Joachim Rønning (5–6), and Espen Sandberg (5). They are mainly written and created by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.

Characters[change | change source]

Johnny Depp stars as Jack Sparrow, the main character and hero of the franchise. Geoffrey Rush plays Hector Barbossa who is the anti-hero of the franchise. Kevin McNally plays Joshamee Gibbs, the friend and sidekick of Sparrow. These characters appeared in all five movies of the franchise.

The movie series started in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which was met with a positive reception from both audience and film critics and made US$654 million worldwide.[1] The franchise's second movie, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, was released three years later in 2006l earning almost $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office. The third movie in the series, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, followed in 2007 earning $960 million. A fourth film, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, in 2011 made more than $1 billion.
