Quantile

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A quantile is a statistical value that divides a data set into equal-sized intervals. It helps in understanding the distribution of data. Common types of quantiles include:

  • Quartiles (4 parts) – Q1 (25th percentile), Q2 (median or 50th percentile), Q3 (75th percentile)
  • Deciles (10 parts)
  • Percentiles (100 parts)

For example, the median (Q2) is the 50th percentile, meaning half the values are below it and half are above.
