Quesnel is a city in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the North Cariboo region and is in the Cariboo Regional District.
The population of Quesnel was 9,889 as reported by the 2021 Canadian census.[1] The mayor of Quesnel is Ron Paull.[2] The city is known for its history in the Cariboo Gold Rush and it important forestry industry.[3][4] The city is named after Canadian fur trader Jules-Maurice Quesnel.[5] In 1955, the villages of Quesnel and West Quesnel merged together to become Quesnel. Quesnel became a town in 1951 and then a city in 1981.[6]
Quesnel Airport serves as the city's main airport and is located 7 minutes from downtown Quesnel.[7]
The city is home to the Quesnel Kangaroos of the Central Interior Hockey League (CIHL) and they play their home games at the West Fraser Centre. The city was home to the Quesnel Millionaires of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) from 1975 until 2011 when they moved to Chilliwack to become the Chilliwack Chiefs.
