A reedbed in summer

A reedbed is a natural place found in wet areas like floodplains, and estuaries. Young reeds grow in water or wet ground. As reedbeds get older, they make the ground drier. They also create a layer of dead plants. This layer rises above the water, making space for bigger plants like shrubs and trees to grow.

People make reedbeds to clean sewage, these are called constructed wetlands.
