Resident Evil Requiem is an upcoming survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. It is part of the Resident Evil series and is set to continue the franchise’s focus on horror, exploration, and combat.[1] The game was announced in 2025 and is planned for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.[2][3]
Gameplay
[change | change source]Resident Evil Requiem is a single‑player survival horror game that blends classic horror and action gameplay. Players take control of two characters: FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy, with the story switching between them to allow for different experiences.[4]
Grace’s sections focus on tense survival horror, where she must manage limited ammunition, sneak around enemies, and use a lighter to explore dark environments. Players can craft items such as specialized injectors using infected blood samples for strategic advantage. Leon’s sections are more action‑based, with firearms, parrying with a tomahawk, and combat skills that reflect his experience.[5]
Requiem lets players switch between first‑person and third‑person views at any time, giving both a close, tense horror feel and a more open combat perspective.[6]
Development
[change | change source]Development of Resident Evil Requiem began following the completion of Resident Evil Village, with Capcom positioning the project as the ninth mainline entry in the survival horror series. The game is directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and produced by Masato Kumazawa. Early in development, the team tested out online and open-world concepts, but these ideas were ultimately abandoned in favor of a traditional single-player experience[7] after internal testing and fan feedback suggested a return to the series’ core survival horror roots.[8] Developers have stated that the tone and structure of Requiem were inspired by classic entries such as Resident Evil 2, emphasizing exploration, puzzle solving, and resource management.[9] The project was officially unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025, with Capcom confirming a multi-platform release strategy aimed at current-generation consoles and PC.[10]
