Sand castles are models of castles made of sand and water. The making of sand castles is part of an art called sand sculpture. Sand castles are often made on a sandy beach or in a sandpit. When sand is damp, the surface tension of the water pulls the sand grains together. When the sand is too wet or too dry, the castle collapses.
