Sebastião Ribeiro Salgado Júnior (February 8, 1944 – May 23, 2025)[2] was a Brazilian social documentary photographer and photojournalist.[3]
Salgado was a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He was awarded the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund Grant in 1982.[4] He became a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1992.[5] He was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts at the Institut de France.[6][7]
Salgado died on May 23, 2025 in Paris, France at the age of 81.[8]
