Second Empire of Haiti was a former country that existed during 1849–1859 under rule of Faustin I.
On August 20, 1849 Haitian parliament proclaimed the president Faustin Soulouque emperor of Haiti.[1] On September 20, 1849 the constitution was adopted.[2] Emperor Faustin attempted to conquer Dominican Republic, which resulted a failure.[3] Emperor had to abdicate because of uprising under lead of Fabbre Geffrard and monarchy got abolished on January 15, 1859.[3] Geffrard has been elected president.
