Shimizu-ku (清水区, Shimizu-ku) is one of three wards of the city of Shizuoka.

The municipality was "Shimizu City" until it merged with Shizuoka in 2005.

Shimizu developed around its good natural harbor.

In the Edo period, Kanbara (蒲原, Kanbara-juku), Yui (由井, Yui-shuku), Okitsu (興津, Okitsu-juku) and Ejiri (江尻, Ejiri-juku) were the 15-18th of the 53 shogunate-maintained waystations (shuku-eki) along the Tōkaidō road which connected Edo and Kyoto. These four way-stations were in the area of modern Shimizu.

Geography

Shimizu is located on the coast of Suruga Bay of the Pacific Ocean.
