Winifred Shirley Hughes, CBE (16 July 1927 – 25 February 2022) was an English author and illustrator. She wrote more than fifty books, which have sold more than 11.5 million copies.[1][2][3]

Hughes died on 25 February 2022 in London, aged 94.[4]
