Sol Líneas Aéreas Flight 5428 was a passenger flight which crashed near the towns of Los Menucos and Prahuaniyeu, in Río Negro, Argentina. The flight made the last leg of the route that included the Argentine cities of Córdoba, Mendoza, Neuquén and Comodoro Rivadavia, on May 18, 2011. The crash is the deadliest aviation accident involving a Saab 340.[1]

The passengers, 22 occupants (18 adult passengers, 1 child and 3 crew members) died at the scene.

Crew[change | change source]

Juan Adalberto Raffo and Adriano Bolatti were the pilot and co-pilot respectively.

Raffo, 45 years old at the time of his death, had 20 years of experience flying planes, first in the Argentine Naval Prefecture, later in Southern Winds until the company closed, and in Sol for 5 years. He lived in the city of Córdoba, near the airport. He was married and the father of four (4) children.

Bolatti lived in Rosario, was divorced and had two young children.

The flight attendant was Jessica Fontán, a 25-year-old from Rosario. She was also the union delegate representing her colleagues in the navigators' union and she had already made several claims for anomalies that she detected in the normal operation of the company.

The accident is featured in the sixth episode of Season 20 of Air Crash Investigation, also known as Mayday. The episode is titled "Icy Descent".[2]
