Sony Pictures Animation is an American computer-animated movie production company. It is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The company was founded in May 2002. It is working closely with Sony Pictures Imageworks, which takes care of the digital production. Theatrical releases are distributed by Columbia Pictures, and direct-to-video releases are distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Their first movie Open Season was released on September 29, 2006, it's latest release was The Angry Birds Movie 2 on August 13, 2019, and it's next release being The Mitchells vs. The Machines on April 30, 2021, along with three direct-to-video sequels: Open Season 2 (released on September 24, 2008), Open Season 3 (released on October 21, 2010), and Open Season: Scared Silly (released on November 6, 2015). The studio's most successful movie to date is The Smurfs. However, its most critically acclaimed movie is Arthur Christmas, which was co-produced with Aardman Animations.
