Stanisław Napierała (born December 23, 1936)[1] is a Polish Roman Catholic bishop. He was the Bishop of Kalisz from 1992 to 2012.
Early life
[change | change source]Stanisław Napierała was born on December 23, 1936, in Kalwy, Poland. He became a priest on May 27, 1961.[2][1]
Career
[change | change source]In 1992, Pope John Paul II made him the first bishop of the Diocese of Kalisz. He served as bishop until his retirement in 2012.[1][2]
Controversies
[change | change source]In 2020, the media reported that Bishop Napierała did not start church investigations against two priests accused of sexual abuse. Reporters sent evidence to the Archbishop of Poznań and the Vatican, using the rules of Vos estis lux mundi. Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki of Poznań started the investigation. In 2021, it was found that Bishop Napierała did not do his duties properly. The Vatican suggested that he make a donation to the St. Joseph Foundation and not participate in public events.[3][4][5][6]
