Stanley is the main city in Mountrail County, North Dakota, and serves as the county seat.[5] In 2020, 2,321 people lived in Stanley,[3] making it the 22nd largest city in North Dakota. The city was founded in 1902. Stanley's economy is strongly linked to the Bakken oil fields nearby.
History
[change | change source]Stanley was created on a town plan in 1902.[6] The Mountrail County Courthouse was built in 1914.
In 1935, a very deadly tornado struck Stanley. It killed four people and injured several others.[7]
