Succession may mean:

  • Order of succession, the chronology of past leaders; or the pre-planned process through which a future leader takes over from another because of death, resignation, or removal
  • Succession planning, the process of identifying and developing people to take over senior positions in government, business, organizations, etc.
  • Ecological succession, the development of changes that occur over time after an ecology is disturbed
