Super Mario RPG (スーパーマリオRPG, Sūpā Mario Ārupījī), taglined Legend of the Seven Stars, is a role-playing game made by Square Co. (now known as Square Enix) and published by Nintendo. The game was first out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996, and then on the Wii's Virtual Console service in 2008.

Gameplay[change | change source]

The gameplay of Super Mario RPG is like other Square role-playing games of Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series. The characters fight enemies by taking turns in a battle-style area. The player controls Mario, Bowser, Princess Toadstool, Mallow and Geno. Each of those characters has special moves they can use on an enemy.

Reception[change | change source]

Super Mario RPG got very good scores, including an 88% average from Game Rankings.[1] The game also sold 1.47 million copies in Japan, which was the third best selling game in that region of 1996.[2]
