T. N. Chaturvedi

Triloki Nath Chaturvedi (18 January 1929 – 5 January 2020) was an Indian politician. He was born in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. From 1984 through 1989, he was the Controller and Auditor General of India. In 2002, he became the Governor of Karnataka and left office in 2007. In 2004, he was the Governor of Kerala.
He was an unsuccessful candidate for President of India in 2017.
Education and Early Career
[change | change source]Triloki Nath Chaturvedi studied law and political science. He passed the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) [1] exams and started working as a civil servant. In his early career, he worked in different administrative roles in the Indian government. He gained respect for being fair and efficient.[2]
Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)
[change | change source]Before becoming Governor, Chaturvedi served as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. In this job, he was responsible for checking how the government used public money. He made sure that spending was legal and proper. His reports helped improve government transparency and accountability.
Role as Governor
[change | change source]As the Governor of Karnataka, Chaturvedi was seen as a calm and neutral leader. He followed the rules of the Constitution and supported peaceful functioning of the state government. For a short time in 2004, he was also given the extra responsibility of being the Governor of Kerala.
Later Years
[change | change source]After finishing his term as Governor, Chaturvedi stayed active in public life. He gave speeches and shared his knowledge on law, governance and ethics. In 2017, he was one of the candidates for the President of India, though he did not win.
Death
[change | change source]Chaturvedi died on 5 January 2020 while on his way to the hospital in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, of a heart attack, aged 90.[3] [4]
