TV format

A TV format is an idea for a tv show that includes what genre the show is and how long each episode is. Sometimes the title and main characters are part of a show’s format.

A lot of game shows and reality shows have their own format that’s easy to remake which is why a lot of countries have their own versions of American Idol. The British sitcom The Office had a famous Mockumentary format which was used to create other versions of The Office in France, Québec, United States, Sweden, Germany, Israel,India and Australia.

Sometimes the person who comes up with the format is called the Television show creator, sometimes the person who wrote the Pilot episode is called the Creator and sometimes both are called the show’s creators.
