Curious[change source]

The man who translated the Rosetta Stone, which told us how the Egyptians wrote, thought that the people were black, like today's Africans, but no one really knows for sure.

I find this a most curious statement. There are a great number of pictures of Ancient Egyptians, painted by Ancient Egyptians. There are also a very large number of very intact remains. We know exactly what they looked like. They were not black like people from most other parts of Africa. In fact, they looked like many of their present-day descendants. One of the characteristics of Egyptians today, (and from the evidence of the paintings of the past,) is that the skin color of the men was often darker and more reddish in color than that of the women. Improvements[change source]

There needs to be more substance and information in the article. Also the language is sometimes not encyclopedic. I have started rewriting and taking a lot of info from this article on enwiki [1] Peterdownunder (talk) 11:48, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Circumcision[change source]

Following this discussion

@Nalanidil: A google search isn't sufficient for that. Can you show an article about the subject? Darubrub (Let me know) 18:10, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

But you've already found it, including the reliefs, when you google...

Oh no matter no reason to argue. by by nice evening (Nalanidil (talk) 18:14, 1 June 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Ok then. I'll add this page to my watch list just in case an update comes. Darubrub (Let me know) 18:16, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another voice[change source]

It is not just about whether they did it or not. It's about whether it was so unusual as to be mentioned. Circumcision was very widely done in pre-colonial Africa: we know quite a lot about the rites of adulthood in many of the societies in pre-modern Africa. Therefore it is not of primary interest in relation to Ancient Egypt. In general the main page of any big topic has to be selective, and the content was organised on that basis. Also, we know little to nothing of the early dynasties, or about the transition from their stone age to the pharonic societies. In any event, circumcision is not so unique to Egypt. Therefore, it is not so essential to include it in the page. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:44, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
