Remember that this assignment asked you find ten scholarly, peer-reviewed sources. Many of these will help you with some basic facts, but you need to work harder to find better research to create a good article. Review en:Wikipedia:Verifiability and en:Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources for help. Also watch the video on finding peer-reviewed sources that is linked from the "Library Resources" section of our Oncourse page. Awadewit (talk) 02:00, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sources You've found a few sources that meet your instructor's criteria and a few that don't, but take heart! One of your sources—the National Toy Hall of Fame—was published by The Strong, who themselves publish a peer-reviewed journal that's free online! Keep searching for sources through Google Scholar, JSTOR, and Lexis-Nexis—this will ensure that what you find is high-quality. -Justin (koavf)TCM17:50, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Outline[change source]

Most of the sources I chose were originally sited on the main Wikipedia article, an for my article I hope to follow the same basic sort of outline. I think the history section will be particularly effective, but I don't know about the hardware section. I feel like the could be a little too complicated for this article.

You cannot rely on Wikipedia for your research - you must do your own research. As you can tell, Wikipedia itself does not always cite reliable sources. What we want to do is improve the articles by doing our own work. Also, you need to think for yourself about how to structure the article. Use the research you do - what do the sources you find suggest are the most important topics to cover? (Also, remember to sign your posts with four tildas (~~~~). Your outline looks like you have a good plan for your article, however, it doesn't look like you have gotten much of it finished. I think you have a really good plan, I hope you follow through with it. I found some really cool sources at the downtown library for my article, maybe you could Google Scholar your topic and find some awesome sources to help you out some. Good luck. Thanks for giving me some feedback. I'd like to get some more sources, but I am having trouble deciding what more people might like to know on this subject. If anyone has any questions or additions that aren't there I would love to hear them. Thanks. Dolyn27 (talk) 07:40, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Possible strategy You can simply take a look at similar articles on the English Wikipedia (e.g. en:Atari 2600.) In fact, the SNES article is featured--which means it's the highest quality on Wikipedia. Having said all that, remember that this has to be written in simple English, so things like technical specifications may have to be skipped. Nonetheless, these should give you a good idea of how to structure an article and even direct you to good sources. —Justin (koavf)TCM16:57, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you could talk about some of the first games that came out for the Atari... expand on how to play the game and where the games are now (are they still played today)Wake0421 (talk) 21:45, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for improvement from Awadewit[change source]

Here are some suggestions for improvement:

  • Remember that you need to have sources for the information that you add.
  • Can you describe the games in more detail? Also, there are many ways to emulate the games now - you could even get screenshots.
  • Can you add information on how well the system was reviewed when it first came out? What about information on how it has influenced other gaming systems?

Right now, I think you need to expand the topics covered. Awadewit (talk) 01:28, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
