In terms of the merge suggestion, I'm not sure that is the way to go. Unless I'm misunderstanding, these two subjects are technically different things. The way I'm understanding it from a Canadian/US perspective would be they are comparable to counties and the cities in the counties. For example, we have the Regional Municipality of York, in which there are other municipalities such as the city of Vaughan, Ontario. So it'd make sense to leave them separate, if that is the case.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:06, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Separate, I think, is the way to go. From my corner of Europe, there are municipalities. There are some municipalities that have a village with the same name (as the municipality). Often there will be one article about the village, and one article about the municipality. 89.8.79.175 (talk) 20:10, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Simple-wiki has
  • ក្រុងបាត់ដំបង (one article about "the municipality"), and
  • ក្រុងបាត់ដំបង (one article about the "city").

Both Cambodian names, say exactly the same thing.

Battambang (capital district) - maybe there should only be one article about that.
(In that article one can also write about "the city" Battambang, that spreads across several administrative divisions within the capital district.
(To that article, a redirect from "Battambang (city)", should be okay.)

Extra information: [1] "Each province has one capital district (changed to "City/Town", Krong; ក្រុង, Krŏng)".

However, the simplest solution might be to have only one article "Battambang" - and "Battambang (capital district)" can redirect to that.
    Simple enough? 89.8.79.175 (talk) 21:37, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(German-wiki has one article where we have two.
However, that we also should call our article "Battambang (city)", is maybe not the best solution; see my suggestions above. 89.8.79.175 (talk) 21:43, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DEWP has one article about the city (de:Battambang (Stadt)) and another about the province (de:Battambang (Provinz)), here are 180k people in the city, and abou 1.3 million in the province. so ideally we have rename this. From the POV of simple english wikpiedia, 'city' is likely easier ot understand than municipalitry...--Eptalon (talk) 22:23, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My point was that (simply) "Battambang", is a good title because of complicating circumstances (or, that Battambang is a so-called "district"-level "city"; It is a district, and it is a "krong" (city/town).
Simple-wiki now actually has three articles (if one counts the province article).

Deleting the "Municipality" article might be okay. (No redirect, to Battambang Municipality, is okay too, I think.).

Has English-wiki made a mistake by having an article about "the Municipality"? Something like that I think, and we should not stay on that path, I think. 89.8.79.175 (talk) 23:17, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think the above is missing the point a little bit here. From what I am understanding, The city that is Battambang lies within the Battambang Municipality, which happens to be apart of Battambang Province. They're all different levels of government, and combining them would be inaccurate. Combining them would be like saying we should combine Île-de-France with Paris. The different administrative levels of government are separate, even if they have the same name.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:39, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestion: recheck your assumption ("The city that is Battambang lies within the Battambang Municipality"). And, yes, you will find non-experts (or journalists) that will "confirm" your assumptions. (Another suggestion: ask one of the last editors at the German-wiki article, why your view might not be correct.) 89.8.76.33 (talk) 04:22, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
