Is this the same as stunt? 193.65.112.51 17:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not typically, its the exception for the most part to the purpose of a stunt double. Stunt doubles handle action sequences where the actor/actress is either unable, unwilling, or prevented (i.e. insurance clause, their contract stipulations, etc.) from doing themselves. What constitutes an "action sequence" can very greatly from basic physical activity (e.g. running up a flight of stairs) to complicated fight sequences to high performance driving and so on.
A closer synonym for "body double" would be a theater term, "stand in". Someone who literally "stands in the place" of the original actor when that person is not available.
A "body double" on the other hand is traditionally and almost always for aesthetic reasons. The main article cites of the more famous examples with the Julia Roberts movie Pretty Woman. In this instance several body doubles were used. --Scalhotrod (talk) 20:33, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
