"A chemical element is a substance which cannot be divided into smaller chemical parts." I think it might be hard to understand what this means, but I don't know a better way to say it. Does anybody else know a better way to say this?

ummmm no

=A chemical element is a subdivision of matter into an individual category related to their atomic constituent (parts) accumulation process. It has a number (Z number) associated with how many protons it has. And it can and does have at least one but possibly more different isotopes within the category depending on how many neutrons it also contains. The material mass of each atom of the element is tha (A number) which is the sum of the the Z number plus the number of neutrons. All the individuals of the same chemical element have the same chemical properties. The physical properties of the isotopes do change slightly due to the mass difference and thus allow isotope separation processes. WFPMWFPM (talk) 04:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
